ORWO UN54 (Universal Negative 54) is a medium-speed panchromatic black-and-white negative film manufactured by FilmoTec GmbH at the Bitterfeld-Wolfen site—the original ORWO/Agfa film production facility. The emulsion is a still-photography respool of the ORWO N74plus cine film, retaining its high silver content and delivering a rich tonal scale, fine grain, and high sharpness suited to both outdoor and indoor subjects. UN54 can also be processed as a black-and-white reversal film to produce direct positive transparencies. Unlike the NP100, UN54 does not include an additional dyed anti-halation layer between base and emulsion, giving a slightly different halation character. Available in 135/36 and as 100ft daylight spools for bulk loading; also respooled by third parties for Super 8. FilmoTec provides processing guidance and technical datasheets.
