Released 2001 as Pentax's last pro film body. Production ran 5 years until 2006 when Pentax shifted entirely to digital DSLRs. The tilted top-plate design was unique — no other SLR has copied it. Total production was modest — perhaps 30,000 units.
For Pentax K-mount enthusiasts, the MZ-S is the most-capable Pentax film SLR. Used at $400–1,100. The 1/6000s shutter and 1/180s flash sync are class-leading; the magnesium body is premium. Trade-off vs Pentax LX: heavier (520 g vs 565 g... actually similar), no manual mechanical fallback, requires 2CR5 batteries.
Pentax KAF2 lenses with full AF. Older K-mount lenses mount with manual focus.
