Released 1999 as Canon's cheapest consumer film SLR. Production ran 5 years until 2004 when consumer film SLRs were displaced by digital DSLRs.
For 2026 buyers wanting the absolute cheapest entry into Canon EF film, the Rebel XS at $25–60 used is unbeatable. With a 50/1.8 II ($120 used), you have a complete EF kit for under $200. Trade-off: cheapest-feeling Canon EOS body, pentamirror is dim, AF is 3-point only.
