Profile notes
UMI 800 ('umi' meaning sea in Japanese) is FilmNeverDie's highest-speed color negative offering, designed for low-light and night photography. The underlying emulsion is identified by the analog community as Kodak Vision3 500T tungsten-balanced cine stock with the remjet layer removed for standard C-41 processing — rated up to ISO 800 with push processing implied or built into the box speed. Its tungsten balance produces a distinctly cool, blue-leaning palette that is especially striking under neon signs and artificial city lighting. In bright daylight, the blue cast remains prominent without a warming filter. The film exhibits strong grain and high contrast that is considered part of its aesthetic appeal. UMI 800 has been praised for red halation effects in nighttime shots. Available in 36 exposures with Street Candy-inspired packaging.
