Released 1976 to replace the Autoreflex T3. Production ran 6 years until 1982. The TC was Konica's volume-seller mechanical SLR, succeeded by the FS-1 line (motor-drive bodies) and ultimately the TC-X (1985, last Konica SLR before brand wind-down).
For Konica AR-mount enthusiasts, the TC is the cheapest entry into the system. Used at $60–150 in 2026. The Hexanon AR lens system — particularly the 40/1.8 AR (a "pancake" lens of unusual sharpness) and the 57/1.4 AR — is undervalued and offers excellent image quality at low used prices.
The trade-off vs comparable mechanical SLRs (OM-1, MX, K1000): the AR mount has a smaller installed base, lenses are slightly harder to find, and Konica service is essentially extinct.
Konica AR mount: Hexanon AR lenses. Common: 50/1.7 AR (kit), 50/1.4 AR, 40/1.8 AR pancake, 28/3.5 AR, 35/2 AR, 85/1.8 AR, 135/3.2 AR.
