The Fujica ST801 (1972) was the **world's first SLR with LED viewfinder meter display** — replacing the analog needle meter. M42 universal mount, mechanical vertical-metal shutter to **1/2000s** (very fast for 1972), TTL stop-down SPD metering with 5-LED display in the finder. Fujica EBC Fujinon lenses (Fuji's multi-coated glass; the EBC coating set a 1970s standard for color rendering).

Released 1972 as Fujica's M42-mount flagship. Production ran 6 years. Successors: ST901 (1974, electronic shutter with AE), ST705 (lower-tier). Fujica eventually moved away from M42 to the AX mount in the late 70s/early 80s.
For 2026 buyers, the ST801 is one of the cheapest M42 SLRs with 1/2000s shutter (most M42 SLRs top out at 1/1000s). The Fujica EBC Fujinon lenses are excellent and undervalued — particularly the 55/1.8 EBC (cheap, sharp) and 50/1.4 EBC (slower than f/1.2 but very good). Used at $80–220.
M42 universal: EBC Fujinon (1972+), Soviet Helios/Industar, Pentax Takumar, Carl Zeiss-Jena. EBC Fujinon line: 50/1.4, 55/1.8, 28/3.5, 35/2.8, 100/2.8, 135/3.5.
