Cosina launched the CS-1 around 1980 as a house-brand body. The same chassis was rebadged extensively for OEM customers. Production continued through the 80s in various branded variants. Cosina later (1999) revived the Voigtländer brand for their own M-mount rangefinders (Bessa series).
For 2026 buyers, the Cosina CS-1 (or its many rebadged variants) is the cheapest mechanical Pentax K-mount SLR you can buy. Used at $60–150. The mechanical operation, full K-mount lens compatibility, and simple design make it bulletproof for student photography.
