The Canon EOS 650 (1987) was the **first body in the Canon EOS line** — the launch of the EF lens mount that has continued through 2026 (and into the current Canon RF mirrorless line). Polycarbonate-on-aluminum body, single-point AF, 6-zone evaluative meter, full PASM, electronic vertical-cloth shutter to 1/2000s. The EOS 650 ended Canon's FD mount era and started the autofocus-first EF era.

Released March 1987 as Canon's commitment to a new AF lens mount. The EOS 620 (1987) was sold alongside as the higher-tier consumer model; the EOS-1 (1989) followed as the pro version. The EOS line has produced over 60 different film bodies through 2007.
Historically the EOS 650 is significant — it broke the FD mount and committed Canon to the EF system. For 2026 buyers, used EOS 650 at $40–120 is a cheap entry to the EF lens system that includes every modern Canon EF L-series lens. Trade-off: 1987-era AF is slow; 2CR5 battery; plastic feel.
Full Canon EF lens system. Speedlite 300EZ flash.
