The Pentax Spotmatic II (1971) is the second iteration of the legendary Spotmatic line. Same mechanical horizontal-cloth shutter, same TTL stop-down CdS metering, same M42 universal screw mount. Refinements: **hot shoe** (vs SP's cold shoe) and **ISO range extended to 6400** (vs SP's 1600). Otherwise mechanically identical to the original SP.

Released 1971. Production ran 5 years until 1976 when the Spotmatic F (open-aperture metering with SMC Takumar lenses) replaced it. The SP II was Pentax's mid-life refresh of the line, addressing two consumer requests: a hot shoe (vs the SP's PC sync only) and higher max ISO.
For 2026 buyers, the SP II is the practical upgrade over the original SP. Used at $100–220, similar pricing to SP, but with the hot shoe (modern flashes work directly without adapters) and higher ISO range. Trade-off vs SP F: still requires stop-down metering with all M42 lenses including SMC Takumars.
M42 universal screw mount. Asahi Takumar, Super Takumar, Super-Multi-Coated Takumar lenses. Soviet Helios, Industar; Zeiss-Jena Pancolar, Tessar — all mount.
