The Nikon N90s (1994, sold as **F90X** in Europe and Asia) is a prosumer autofocus 35mm SLR. It introduced the **3D matrix metering** (8-segment, with distance information from D-type lenses for matrix calculation) — refined later in the F5 and F100. CAM 246 autofocus (3-area, similar to the F4's), full PASM, 4.3 fps, 1/8000s shutter, 1/250s flash sync. Powered by 4 AA batteries — no proprietary cell required.

The N90 (1992, sold as F90 in Europe) was the original; the N90s (1994) refined the AF, added user-programmable custom functions, and improved metering. Production ran 7 years until the F100 (1999) replaced it. The N90s was Nikon's volume seller of mid-90s prosumer SLRs.
The N90s is the cheapest modern Nikon film SLR you can buy that's still respectable. Used at $60–200. The 3D matrix metering is the same architecture that powers the F5 / F100 / F6 — just with fewer segments. AA batteries mean no proprietary-cell concerns. AF works with all AF/AF-D lenses (and AF-S in manual focus on this body). For $100 plus a 50/1.8 AF-D lens, you have a complete modern Nikon film kit.
F-mount: AI / AI-S meter (manual focus), AF / AF-D fully compatible, AF-S works in manual focus. MB-10 vertical battery grip (rare). MF-26 data back. Speedlight SB-26 / SB-28 with full TTL.
