Released 1982 to replace the EM. Production ran 4 years until 1986. The simplified FG-20 (1984) removed program mode for cost reduction — sold as a kit camera through 1989.
For 2026 buyers wanting a cheap entry into modern Nikon F-mount with program mode, the FG at $80–200 used is the answer. F-mount means access to all AI/AI-S Nikkors. Trade-off: plastic body, no titanium shutter, mechanical fallback only at 1/90s.
F-mount: AI / AI-S meter directly. AF Nikkors mount in manual focus. MD-14 motor drive, MF-15 data back, SB-15 flash with TTL.
