Released March 2000. Production continued through May 2018 when Canon officially announced film-camera production end. The 1V outsold every other Canon film body of its era and became the chosen body for sports and wildlife photographers who wanted both film negative and DSLR-grade autofocus. Canon offered a long-running service program until 2025; spare parts ended 2025.
If you want fast film photography in 2026 — sports, action, wildlife, motorsport — the 1V is the answer. Its autofocus tracks moving subjects as well as a mid-2000s digital body, and the EF lens system spans every focal length and aperture combination Canon ever made. Many Canon professional shooters carried 1V bodies as B-cameras well into the 2010s, partly for archival film negatives, partly because the 1V outlasted everything Canon released digitally for the same use case until the 1Dx II.
Full EF lens system. Common pairings: 24-70/2.8L, 70-200/2.8L IS, 50/1.4, 85/1.2L, 24/1.4L, 300/2.8L, 600/4L IS. PB-E2 booster grip (10 fps), TC-80N3 remote with custom-function programming, ES-E1 Software Development Kit. Speedlite 580EX-II, 600EX-II RT for ETTL flash.
