The Nons SL42 (2019) is a unique modern instant camera: a **single-lens reflex body that takes Instax Square film** and accepts **35mm SLR lenses** via interchangeable mount adapters (Pentax K, Canon FD, Nikon F, M42 — the user picks the mount when buying or buys multiple adapter rings). Pentaprism viewfinder, focal-plane electronic shutter, programmed exposure with darken/lighten bias. Made by Nons (Hong Kong / Italian collaboration). The follow-up **Nons SL660** (2022) refined the design with full PASM modes.

Released 2019 via Kickstarter campaign. The SL42 was Nons's first product; the company has since released the SL660 (2022, refined SL42 with PASM modes) and announced the SL645 (Instax Wide variant) for 2025.
The SL42 fills a unique niche: using legacy 35mm SLR lenses on instant film. A user with a collection of vintage Pentax K, Canon FD, Nikon F, or M42 lenses can mount them on the Nons body and shoot Instax Square — getting the optical character of those lenses (50/1.4, 85/1.8, 135/2.8) on instant film. No other camera offers this.
For 2026 buyers, the SL42 at $700 is positioned as a creative-photography tool. Trade-off: the Instax Square format is square-cropped vs the lens's typical 35mm rectangle; many photographers use the SL42 with portraits and creative shots.
Interchangeable mount adapters: Pentax K (KAF), Canon FD, Nikon F, M42. Adapters cover most 35mm SLR lens systems. Specific lens choice depends on the user's existing collection.
