The Pentax IQZoom 90 WR (~1992) is a splash-resistant 35 mm autofocus zoom compact sharing its optical and mechanical specification with the Zoom 90 WR under Pentax's IQZoom marketing umbrella. The IQZoom name was applied across a broad range of Pentax zoom compacts sold primarily in North American and some European markets; the Espio designation was used for equivalent models in other regions. Functionally the camera is a program-only point-and-shoot with a 38-90 mm zoom range, DX film speed coding, and weather sealing intended to protect against rain and dust during outdoor use.

Pentax launched the IQZoom branding in the early 1990s to differentiate its zoom compact line from the proliferation of competing AF compacts at the consumer price level. The suffix "IQ" carried a positioning implication of image quality and intelligent automation, even as the cameras in the range were largely program-automatic. The WR variants within the IQZoom family addressed a segment of buyers - hikers, travellers, outdoor photographers - who needed a camera that could handle light rain without full waterproofing.
The IQZoom 90 WR sits near the middle of the IQZoom hierarchy: its 90 mm long end provides more reach than the IQZoom 70 or 80 while remaining in a body small enough for a jacket pocket. Above it, the IQZoom 115M and IQZoom 928 extended the zoom range further. The line was phased out by the late 1990s as Pentax consolidated around the Espio brand globally and digital cameras began absorbing the entry compact segment.
The IQZoom 90 WR illustrates the proliferation of weather-resistant compact zoom cameras at accessible consumer price points in the early 1990s - a category that effectively democratised outdoor photography for non-professional users who could not afford a dedicated weather-sealed SLR system. For the collector, it is of moderate interest as a functional outdoor shooter: the 38-90 mm range covers the majority of common photographic situations, and the WR sealing, if intact, extends usability in conditions that would damage unsealed alternatives.
The camera competes with the Olympus Mju Zoom 80 Wide, Nikon Zoom Touch series, and Canon Sure Shot Owl in the same era; the Pentax distinguishes itself through the 90 mm long end at a time when many competitors capped at 80 mm.
