The Contax T2 Platinum is a limited-edition cosmetic variant of the standard Contax T2, produced by Kyocera in 2001 to mark the 90th anniversary of the Zeiss Ikon and Contax brands. Mechanically identical to the standard T2, it carries the same Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 38mm f/2.8 lens, electronic leaf shutter running to 1/500s, and aperture-priority/program exposure modes. The distinguishing feature is its platinum-toned titanium finish on the top plate and body panels, distinguishing it from the standard satin-silver and the all-black variant.

The T2 was produced from 1990 to 2002 under the Contax brand by Kyocera. Over its 12-year run several limited variants appeared alongside the standard silver body: a black edition (contax-t2-black), and the Platinum anniversary edition produced in small numbers around 2001. The T2 Platinum was sold in select markets, often as a boxed set with matching accessories. Production numbers are not publicly confirmed. The following year, Kyocera released the T3 (2001) as the T2's outright successor, and T-series production concluded in 2005 when Kyocera withdrew from the camera market.
The Platinum edition occupies a distinct niche from working photographers' T2s: it was sold to collectors and gift buyers, and many survive in near-mint condition. As a result, it can command substantially higher prices than a standard T2 in comparable cosmetic condition - not because of any photographic advantage, but because of rarity and presentation. For film shooters who want the T2 experience, the standard silver body is optically and mechanically identical and costs considerably less. The Platinum is of interest primarily to Contax completists and to those who want to use the camera as an artifact, not merely as a tool.
Lens is fixed (Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 38mm f/2.8, identical to standard T2). Compatible flashes: TLA-30, TLA-200. The Platinum edition was often sold with a matching platinum-finished leather case; original boxed sets with case and strap carry a significant collector premium.
